Summary

A reserved Bangladeshi teenager has twenty-eight days to make the biggest decision of her life after agreeing to fake date her school’s resident bad boy。
How do you make one month last a lifetime?

Karina Ahmed has a plan。 Keep her head down, get through high school without a fuss, and follow her parents’ rules—even if it means sacrificing her dreams。 When her parents go abroad to Bangladesh for four weeks, Karina expects some peace and quiet。 Instead, one simple lie unravels everything。

Karina is my girlfriend。

Tutoring the school’s resident bad boy was already crossing a line。 Pretending to date him? Out of the question。 But Ace Clyde does everything right—he brings her coffee in the mornings, impresses her friends without trying, and even promises to buy her a dozen books (a week) if she goes along with his fake-dating facade。 Though Karina agrees, she can’t help but start counting down the days until her parents come back。

T-minus twenty-eight days until everything returns to normal—but what if Karina no longer wants it to?

i had high hopes for this book, but it far exceeded all my expectations。 i don't think ive ever felt so seen while reading a book, even though karina and i are different in many ways, the similarities in our sense of self are truly astounding。 i absolutely loved this book and i wish i could read it again for the first time even if i just finished reading it less than 5 minutes ago。 i had high hopes for this book, but it far exceeded all my expectations。 i don't think ive ever felt so seen while reading a book, even though karina and i are different in many ways, the similarities in our sense of self are truly astounding。 i absolutely loved this book and i wish i could read it again for the first time even if i just finished reading it less than 5 minutes ago。 。。。more

I liked it。 I liked the characters。 I liked the message。。。 but。。。 It is a predictable, cute romance that points out the flaws of traditional multi-cultural parenting that we often find in contemporary YA lit。 However, the issue that bothered me is that the mental health element is not dealt with in a realistic manner。

I don’t know what to say。 There’s so much I could say。 Often I don’t find characters that are similar to me and sometimes I do。 But never have I ever read a book where I was able to relate the characters so much。 Especially Karina。 I literally had to stop reading halfway since it got too overwhelming for me to continue。 I just restarted and completed the book。 * all the characters are amazing。 I wish I had someone like Dadu in my life。 Ace is definitely my top book boyfriend。 He is LITERALLY PER I don’t know what to say。 There’s so much I could say。 Often I don’t find characters that are similar to me and sometimes I do。 But never have I ever read a book where I was able to relate the characters so much。 Especially Karina。 I literally had to stop reading halfway since it got too overwhelming for me to continue。 I just restarted and completed the book。 * all the characters are amazing。 I wish I had someone like Dadu in my life。 Ace is definitely my top book boyfriend。 He is LITERALLY PERFECT!! I am not even joking。 Karina。 Though, some might think that Karina was being unreasonable or annoying。 But I understood where she came from。 There are always those people in our lives whom we love so much that we are constantly afraid of hurting and disappointing them。Being Bangladeshi or south Asian in general doesn’t help。 Some of our parents immigrated just so that we can live a better life。 And it Hurts to disappoint them。 Fortunately for me I am lucky enough to have parents who support my career choice。 But there are so many other matters which they don’t understand。 *Anyway, I can read this book probably 20 more times。 The author did a wonderful job and cannot wait to read more of her books in the future ♥️ 。。。more

Ok, so this book was absolutely amazing!!! Ace is so fucking sweet that it hurts my heart。 The way that he completely understands Karina and doesn’t push her to do anything that she wants to do is so incredibly admirable。 My standards for guys is going to be so incredibly high after reading this book。 Although I did get a bit frustrated sometimes with Karina but I know that it’s due to the fact that my parents aren’t like Karina’s parents。 Although I still do really like her character。 My favori Ok, so this book was absolutely amazing!!! I LOVE this book so much! The representation of brown girls and what we go through is amazing。 I related to this book and so many of Karina's experiences are similar to what brown girls go through and I am so glad that there's a book portraying it。The mental health representation in the brown community was amazing in this book。 I love that it spreads awareness about mental health and how many brown parents don't take it seriously。 I cannot say enough good things about this book! 3 1/2 stars。 I know that this is an own voices novel, but it reads more like a fairy tale than a contemporary romance。 Ace never seems like an actual person, just a teen fantasy。 Although the pressures of being a child of immigrants is addressed, the issues of race and religion are glossed over, which is unfortunate in a book featuring an underrepresented group。

Very cheesy, fast paced romance。This is a super fast read, with short chapters。 I liked the cuteness of the story。 It's an attempt at good girl meets bad boy but tries to spin it into another direction of the bad boy not being bad。 The thing is, this is written like a wattpad story。 No shade, it's just a simple written story that is fast paced。 The romance is very light as well。 It's cute, heartwarming at times。 I'll give it points for showing how strong Karina is。 She stands up for herself by t Very cheesy, fast paced romance。This is a super fast read, with short chapters。 I liked the cuteness of the story。 It's an attempt at good girl meets bad boy but tries to spin it into another direction of the bad boy not being bad。 The thing is, this is written like a wattpad story。 No shade, it's just a simple written story that is fast paced。 The romance is very light as well。 It's cute, heartwarming at times。 I'll give it points for showing how strong Karina is。 She stands up for herself by the end。 Anxiety in this book is handled well and her friends are god tier。 。。。more

There was no need for this book to be this relatable。 Absolutely no need。Where do I even begin?Okay, I think I have to start with the main thing here: I'm Bengali。 And no, never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would ever get to read a book (in this decade) about a Bangladeshi teenager living in the US。 (No, I'm not Bangladeshi, but Bengali solidarity, okay?)It was me saying every five seconds, this book is SUCH a mood。I have never particularly cared for adolescent romance, which is the There was no need for this book to be this relatable。 Absolutely no need。Where do I even begin?Okay, I think I have to start with the main thing here: I'm Bengali。 And no, never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would ever get to read a book (in this decade) about a Bangladeshi teenager living in the US。 (No, I'm not Bangladeshi, but Bengali solidarity, okay?)It was me saying every five seconds, this book is SUCH a mood。I have never particularly cared for adolescent romance, which is the only reason why this book isn't five stars。 Also, he's white。 Also, there were some things that reeked of internalized colonialism, but I'm not sure if I'm the best person to unpack that。 I, however, was fully immersed in this book as a coming-of-age story for Karina。I am honestly at a mild loss of words。 I teared up twice during the book。 (It hits home, okay? It hit really close to home。) The relationship portrayed in this book was astonishingly healthy。 Karina and her best friends were extremely relatable。The only thing that bothered me was that she calls her grandma Dadu???!??!? Isn't that typically for grandfathers? I even asked my mom because I was that confused, but she was on the same wavelength。 I guess it might be different for Bangladeshis, but my maternal grandparents are Bangladeshi and I call my grandfather Dadu, so nope, still confused。 Okay also it didn't bother me that her name was Dadu, obviously you can call her whatever you want, it was just jarring because I expected something different。Back to the meat of the book。 This was way too relatable, and honestly, I wasn't expecting that。 I know I'm avoiding the romance part of it, but as I mentioned before, I don't particularly care for teenage romance。 I guess their relationship could be cute。 Overwrought and cliche, probably, but cute, I guess。Yet Karina growing and learning herself was just such a relatable journey。 First things first, it's hard disobeying your parents。 And yes, sometimes the only excuse is well, because they're my parents。 They're my parents and this is how I was raised, and I can't just do whatever I want。 It's other people always being like, but you CAN。 You literally CAN。 Just do something else。 But no? That's not how our world works? Second, omg her relationship with her brother Samir。 Men simply do not fucking understand how much easier everything is for them。 I don't want to say too much here, but wow, a mood。Third, her friend group being composed of a Bangladeshi, Indian, and half-Chinese/half-white was the most relatable thing ever。 Ugh。 YES。Fourth, the emotions as she tried to figure everything out。 Stop。 Too close to home。Fifth, I'm glad this book talked about anxiety。 Anxiety is not something I personally deal with, but I know the toll it can take, and having it talked about pretty openly in this book was really wonderful。 Tying it together with POC representation made it even better。Ultimately, I'm really glad I stumbled upon this book。 I should probably stop now before I mention one more time how much of a mood this book was or discuss again the finer points of being Bengali。 And I'm out。 。。。more

I loved this book。 I really couldn't stop reading it; it has very beautiful writing and I cried a lot。 I identified too much with the protagonist; we try all the time to be perfect to make our parents love us and be proud of what we have accomplished。 Also, the romance was extremely wonderful。 Honestly, the experience of reading this book was amazing。 I loved this book。 I really couldn't stop reading it; it has very beautiful writing and I cried a lot。 I identified too much with the protagonist; we try all the time to be perfect to make our parents love us and be proud of what we have accomplished。 Also, the romance was extremely wonderful。 Honestly, the experience of reading this book was amazing。 。。。more
